Welcome to the launch Bruce Lee Forever, a monthly column that will bring you new insights into the legend of Bruce Lee. Every month this column will feature stories, anecdotes and an inside look into the life and legend of the Little Dragon. Some of these stories will feature never-before-seen images and material from the life of Bruce Lee.
This month marks what would have been Bruce Lee’s 70th birthday, and there is no shortage of celebrations honoring this event around the world. From China to Hong Kong, Japan to Europe, from New York to San Francisco, the festivities will be plentiful and filled with adulation for its fallen hero.
Bruce Lee had many faces: husband, father, brother, friend, martial artist, philosopher, teacher and actor. For many of us, he has always been our hero, our model, and a motivating force that helped us to accomplish great things. Whether it was emulating him as a martial artist, or trying our best to become physically fit, Bruce Lee has been an inspiration to us all.
My Bruce Lee journey began when I was young and I was introduced to him through the “Green Hornet” repeats on television. All the neighborhood kids would play a GH game, but there was a problem: everyone wanted to be Bruce Lee (Kato). Lots of negotiating went on and happily, I emerged victorious more than once. As I grew older, Bruce Lee was the catalyst behind me training in diverse martial arts styles that eventually led to my discovery of jeet kune do.
Inside Kung-Fu started me on the path of writing monthly articles on Bruce Lee. I have interviewed many of Bruce’s family and closest friends and have been fortunate to see those interviews published in this magazine. My vision has always been to share what I have learned about Bruce Lee and to give the readers a deeper glimpse of the man behind the man.
I have met amazing people like George Lee, Taky Kimura, Dan Inosanto, John Saxon and on and on. It has been a happy and fruitful journey to find out more about my hero and share what I have learned with others.
I have written many books on Bruce Lee and have co-written and co-produced DVD projects and documentaries on him. But the most treasured memories I have are of the wonderful people who surrounded Bruce Lee in his lifetime. They have become like family to me.
Without the support of the Bruce Lee Estate and the Bruce Lee Foundation, my work and the work of others would not have found a place to shine. Bruce Lee Enterprises and Lee Way Media are two new divisions created by the Estate to make sure that Bruce Lee will be around forever. And more importantly, will always be see with class and style. One thing is for sure: there will be a lot of Bruce Lee-related projects in the works for years to come.
The goal of this column is also to listen to the fans of Bruce Lee. If there is a specific want or need you feel should be covered, reach out to me and express your thoughts. I will do my best to accommodate your requests at .
In closing, let us embark on this journey together month to month and enjoy Bruce Lee from a new perspective, with new visuals, new stories and a new look at Bruce Lee—one of the great heroes of this century.
